Scene Ideas are one of the largest suppliers of Steeldeck on the west coast of Canada and specialise in staging to create large and often complex structures for exhibitions and events.
As a draftsman it was my job to create the drawings for these structures. This would include an installation package for the crew and a set of structural drawings to be signed off by an engineer.
Events varied from swimming pool covers for private parties to half time shows at football matches. I also had to take detailed measurements during site surveys to understand the feasibility of more complex projects and clients demands.
Custom Builds
Creating fabrication drawings for scenic elements requires thinking through every stage of the design process. It involves working closely with the client to ensure we provide the desired end product, understanding the venue limitations and working alongside other suppliers such as rigging, lighting, video and audio.
Whilst this is happening, I would work with the head of fabrication to make drawings to allow the workshop to construct the pieces in house. This will ensure they can be transported and built on site as efficiently and safely as possible.
